Pastoral Care

ST ANDREW'S COLLEGE DUBLIN watermark

Pastoral care is central to our ethos. We believe that every child should feel happy, safe, and valued, and that emotional wellbeing is just as important as academic success. Our approach ensures each pupil receives the support they need to thrive—personally, socially, and emotionally.

A Nurturing Environment

Pastoral care is led by our dedicated Support for Learning team, who work closely with class teachers, parents, and professionals to identify and respond to a child’s needs. Whether a pupil is facing short-term challenges or longer-term emotional difficulties, we aim to provide a nurturing space where they feel heard and supported.

Personalised Support

Pastoral sessions are:

  • One-to-one or small group based

  • Designed to be short or long-term, depending on individual needs

  • Flexible in both frequency and duration

Support may focus on:

  • Friendship or social challenges

  • Building self-confidence and self-regulation

  • Managing emotions, including worry or anxiety

  • Navigating change in a transient environment (e.g., family transitions, school moves)

We also collaborate with external agencies and the Guidance Team in the Senior School when additional or specialist support is required.

Our Commitment

At SACJS, pastoral care is not an add-on—it is a vital part of school life. Through this support, we help children to:

  • Develop resilience and emotional intelligence

  • Build respectful and trusting relationships

  • Foster a strong sense of self-worth and belonging

  • Feel empowered to face challenges with confidence

No matter the situation, we ensure no child feels alone.
