Wellbeing

We place wellbeing at the heart of school life. Through our curriculum, school culture, and care systems, we support each child’s social, emotional, physical, and spiritual development—now and into the future. We believe that a child who feels safe, confident, and connected is a child who is ready to thrive.
Wellbeing in the Curriculum
In line with the Primary Curriculum Framework, Being Well is recognised as one of the seven core competencies that empower children to live meaningful, healthy lives.
The curriculum aims to:
-
Promote physical, emotional, social, and spiritual health
-
Encourage self-awareness, resilience, and self-belief
-
Help children value healthy relationships and develop emotional literacy
-
Build motivation for physical activity and making healthy lifestyle choices
-
Encourage reflection, ethical understanding, and a sense of purpose
-
Foster a sense of connectedness—to self, others, community, and the world
Through dedicated areas like PE and SPHE, as well as cross-curricular and school-wide experiences, our pupils explore wellbeing in a structured yet holistic way. Children also engage with themes such as citizenship, values education, and human relationships, helping them to reflect on the rights and responsibilities they hold in both local and global contexts.
Support for Learning & Pastoral Care
Wellbeing is deeply integrated into our Support for Learning (SfL) and pastoral systems. Whether a child needs extra support, enrichment, or simply someone to talk to, our SfL team is here to help. We foster inclusive and responsive teaching strategies that meet each child where they are—emotionally, socially, and academically. EAL learners, children with emerging needs, and those navigating life challenges are supported with care, compassion, and expertise.
The House System – Belonging, Encouragement & Team Spirit
Our House system is central to building community and celebrating each child’s strengths. Every pupil is part of one of four Houses:
-
💙 Centaur (Blue)
-
❤️ Griffin (Red)
-
💛 Phoenix (Yellow)
-
💚 Dragon (Green)
Children earn House Points through kindness, effort, teamwork, and positive behaviour—aligned with our Positive Behaviour Policy. Regular House events and challenges build friendships across year groups, promote school spirit, and help each child feel a strong sense of belonging.
A Culture of Care
At SACJS, wellbeing is more than a subject—it’s a culture. Through relationships, reflection, nature, creativity, and community, we help children grow into resilient, empathetic, and purposeful individuals. We believe every child deserves to feel valued, supported, and seen—and we work each day to make that a reality.
