Student Leadership

ST ANDREW'S COLLEGE DUBLIN watermark

We believe every child has the potential to lead, inspire, and make a difference. Student leadership is a vital part of our school’s ethos and reflects our commitment to nurturing confident, responsible, and active citizens.

From K1 to P6, all pupils are given opportunities to develop their leadership skills, have their voices heard, and contribute meaningfully to school life. Leadership isn’t just for a select few—it’s for everyone.

Why Student Leadership Matters

Empowering our pupils to lead teaches them how to:

  • Communicate confidently and respectfully

  • Make decisions responsibly and democratically

  • Support and collaborate with others

  • Take initiative and solve problems

  • Represent the views and needs of their peers

It also helps children understand the power of their student voice—a cornerstone of our mission and core values. When children are heard and involved, they flourish.

Leadership Opportunities

We currently offer seven key leadership pathways, with opportunities suited to different ages, interests, and strengths:

  • Student Council

  • Green Team

  • Prefects

  • House Captains

  • Junior Librarians

  • Gaeilge Champions

  • Digital Leaders

Each group plays an important role in shaping the life of our school and helping us grow together as a community.

Leadership roles are assigned through a fair, child-led selection process. Pupils prepare and present short speeches or presentations, and then participate in a peer voting system. This helps children learn how to express themselves, advocate for change, and experience democratic participation in action.

Student leadership at SACJS gives every child a chance to shine, to be part of something bigger than themselves, and to know their voice matters.
