Prefects

St Andrews College, through its prefect system recognises the important role the senior students play in the growth and development of the school.
Prefects are key representatives of the school body in the school, acting as advocates and role models for the younger students and generally undertaking a leadership role in the school.
St Andrews College provides many opportunities for young people to develop leadership skills and we entrust pupils with responsibilities commensurate with their strengths and abilities. The prefect system provides important benefits for both the students and the College. Prefects have the potential to influence the school environment and the behaviour of their peers by being advocates for promoting and maintaining a positive school culture and healthy and safe learning environment within the school community.
Through the Senior College prefect structure, we aim to:-
-
Implement the belief of the College that ‘active participation in all aspects of College life promotes the socialisation of children and prepares them to play their full part as citizens in a democratic society’
-
Afford all students the opportunity to aim for this goal
-
Raise the profile of 6th Year prefects and 5th Year acting prefects so that the role of a prefect is one which is taken seriously and the position is afforded the respect it deserves
-
Define the tasks and responsibilities assigned to prefects so that they are empowered to make a difference in their areas of responsibility
-
Ensure that only those students truly deserving of the office of Prefect will be allowed to progress to that status in their final year
-
Have the expectations that prefects are available for and committed to their roles and show good example in terms of timekeeping, reliability and behaviour
-
Promote the prefect structure in such a way that prefects show good leadership skills and are seen as good role models by the rest of the student population
