Welcome to the Art Department. My name is Liam Cousins. I have been teaching since 2005 and I joined the team in St-Andrew’s College in 2016. I attended college in N.C.A.D where I gained a B.A. in Art and Design Education. My specialisation there was in Ceramics. I have also lectured in Art Education and have previously worked in a private art school as a Studio Co-Ordinator, where I led a team of art teachers developing exciting educational content for learners from age four to adult education. I have worked in a number of primary schools, secondary schools and colleges where I gained a wealth of experience.

The Art department is a very vibrant and exciting place for our students in St Andrew’s College Junior School. Creativity is at the forefront of our learning here. Each student from K1 to P6 come to our specialised art room, which is always a hive of learning and activity.

Drawing, painting, sculpting and printing are but a few of the many art forms explored across the curricula here. Students are encouraged to take a creative risk and experiment with different ways to explore each media, encouraging the students to think independently. It is a real joy to see the progress of each student throughout their time in the art department, as they grow in skill and become more confident in expressing their individuality in their art works.

Every year the Art department hosts an annual art exhibition, where we get to showcase the creations made over the year in the art department.

In my spare time I work on my own art practice, where I use a variety of media and materials.

I strongly believe in open and positive communication between teachers and parents so if there is anything that you would like to discuss or ask, please contact me via email or in person, my door is always open.
