History Award

Presented to Shona Cooney (Class of 2018)

Since 1989 the History Teachers' Association of Ireland has awarded a medal each year to the student whom the Department of Education and Science deems to have achieved the highest mark in the Leaving Certificate History examination.

In 1999 the medal was renamed the Deirdre Clancy Medal, to mark the retirement of Deirdre as the Assistant Chief Advising Examiner of Leaving Certificate History.

Much to the delight of her teacher, Ms McGrane, Shona Cooney won the 2018 Deirdre Clancy Medal and was presented with the medal by HTAI President Deirdre MacMathuna  on Friday 15 March.

Deirdre Clancy's daughter Margaret Leonard, together with her son John, also attended the presentation.
