Senior Cycle

Main Objectives:

  • To support students at times of transition

  • To help students grow in independence and take responsibility 

  • To assist students in the exploration of the pathways available to them after post primary school

4th Year 

Our Guidance Counsellors will provide Transition year students with classes on the following topics:

  • CV preparation​

  • Advice on finding work experience​

  • In Transition Year, psychometric testing will be carried out, students have the opportunity to sit My Future Choice aptitude tests, and individual feedback and subject choice advise is provided to each student by their guidance Counsellor. Students also have an opportunity to take the PSAT test.

  • How to use the Reach+ programme​

  • The application process for assessing third level education in Ireland and abroad​

  • Information on the International Baccalaureate and the Leaving Certificate programmes​

  • Course and career investigation​

5th Year

  • Visits from various third level educational institutions.​

  • Classes on different college application systems, e.g. UCAS, the Netherlands and Europe, USA, Canada, etc.​

  • Opportunity to sit PSAT and SAT tests.​

  • Introduction to the HPAT class.​

  • One-to-one meetings with all students.​

  • Support with subject and level changes.

6th Year

  • One-to-one meetings with all students.​

  • Guidance counsellors attend weekly assemblies with information on applications, open days and any relevant chargers that may occur.​

  • Guidance Counsellors accompany all students to Higher Options Fair.​

  • Classes for 6th Year students on various application systems.​

  • Opportunity to sit SAT tests.​

  • Assistance with applications for language exemptions and DARE.​

  • SPAT classes provided to all students applying for medicine.​

  • On receipt of exam results, Guidance Counsellors will be available to help students with their choices.
